Secret Angels IV Reveal!

I ended up writing two fics for Secret Angels IV:

Top 40 Nightmare
Podfic | MP3 | 46 MB | 50'42"
Audiobook | M4B | 24 MB | 50'42"
Notes: malnpudl did the beta for both the story and the podfic, and cybel created the audiobook. I did a podfic because the story fairly well cried out for it. The recipient was daymarket.
Summary: Dean comes to the end of You Light Up My Life and decides two things: one, he just sang a goddamn pop ballad from the seventies, so his life is officially over; and two, he’ll have to kill Sam, who just stood there staring while Dean sang his heart out to him and didn’t do a damn thing to stop it.

For The Grace Of...
Notes: tracy did the beta for the story, which was down to the wire, just as the story was. The recipient was viridian_magpie.
Summary: Dean is pretty sure his day is going from bad to worse, but then again, Dean’s been wrong before.

Happy New Year, everyone.

I wrote two stories this year for Yuletide:

Rationale for quiesce
Slings & Arrows
Oliver Welles/Ellen Fanshaw
Rated M for Mature
Oliver can justify anything he decides to do.

The first time... for harborshore
Whip It
Bliss Cavendar/Pash, Bliss Cavendar/Iron Maven, Bliss Cavendar/Oliver
Rated M for Mature
Bliss has had a lot of first times, and Pash usually figures into them one way or another.

NEW FIC: Host, PG-13, SPN, Gen

Title: Host
Author: elementalv
Rating: PG-13
Notes/Warning: Missing POV from episode 6.10, Caged Heat. Disturbing imagery.
Word Count: 833
Summary: She doesn’t know how long it’s been since she heard anyone call her by her real name.

If I Should Fall from Grace With God by The Pogues from If I Should Fall from Grace With God [Expanded] (Rating: 4)

Held Against Your Bones is part of the Secret Angels IV fic exchange, and it's well worth a look. It's an AU that begins near the end of 5.22, and the language is fantastic. The disjointed narrative works really well, and this story isn't getting the love or attention it should. Go. Read. Comment.

Christmas is-a cumin' in

Thanksgiving is just about over, which means it's time to decorate for Christmas. If you have an icon you'd like to hang blinky lights on, respond to this post with your icon in the body of your response.

It's dead easy for me to do, so don't be shy.

Awesome flist is AWESOME!

keerawa wrote me an Ellen/Dean ficlet for my birthday! Go and read Years Gone By and marvel at the awesomeness of my flist!!

Dear Yulegoat:

First of all, thank you. I appreciate the fact that you've agreed to write for me, and while I apologize for the lack of detail in my optional box, I want you to know it's because I don't want to limit you in what you write beyond specific character requests.

So, for Quantum Leap, I really want a grown-up Sammy Jo, but the other characters can show up in the ways she thinks about them. Does she realize Sam is her father? Does she think Al is a douche? Does she share secrets with Ziggy? We never got to know Sammy Jo as an adult, and I'd like to.

For Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Marvin is the star in my mind, but if you don't really connect with him, that's cool, too, but I'd like him to at least have a secondary role in whatever you write.

And for Jane Eyre, there are some really interesting women, and I'd like to get to know them in the context of one another, rather than the context of Edward. You don't need to use all of the characters I listed, but I would like to see how at least two of them interact with one another.

Beyond these specifics, go to town. You're writing to my request, but seriously, this is your story, and I don't want to constrain you beyond requesting that you avoid the only serious squicks I have in fan fic: abuse (animal and child) and partner betrayal.

Once again, thank you! I look forward to reading your story and seeing where you went with my admittedly loose prompts.

A day late, and a rec short

So, over at deancastiel, they're slowly revealing the fics, and the fic for me, me, ALL ME, was posted yesterday.

IT IS THE BEST FIC EVAR!!!11!1!1!1!!!

Seriously, drop by and read Kite Songs when you get a chance. The writer based it off my first prompt, which was "Dean is hailed as the Vonnegut of his generation; Cas is the highly-respected English professor who can't stand Dean's work and blogs about it for the world to see. Hijinks ensue."

It's awesome sauce on a side of cool beans.

DRABBLE: Time, PG, Supernatural AU

Title: Time
Author: elementalv
Rating: PG
Characters: Dean and Castiel
Notes: 100 words. This will be a fractured story told along the non-contiguous lines of Soul Surrender, and it’s probably going to be a bit darker.
Summary: Dean doesn’t know what day it is.

Dean doesn’t know what day it is. For that matter, he’s not entirely certain what “day” means anymore. He’s in a place where time doesn’t seem to mean what he thought it meant. Shit happens randomly, like Castiel can’t quite figure out linear time‘s rules. It’s possible he can’t. Assuming he is what he says he is, an angel, maybe time means something different, if it means anything at all. Add to that the fact that Castiel is batshit insane, and Dean has a situation where he doesn’t know what day it is.

He wonders if he ever will again.

Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Dean/Castiel
[community profile] kink_bingo Squares: worship, exposure/striptease, tattoos/tattooing, dirty talk (a postage stamp)
Notes: This goes AU just before the end of 5.16: instead of finding a liquor store and drinking it, Castiel finds a different way to cope.
Summary: Castiel was made to worship.

Survey on Racism in Fandom

For those of you who don't know me, I've been active in fandom since 2002, though not so much lately, because I'm working toward a master's degree in written communication. I'm currently taking a class called "Community Communication," and for the most recent assignment, we were asked to identify a communication issue in community with which we are very familiar. I chose to look at racism within fandom, based on RaceFail '09 and, more recently, Big Bang RaceFail of '10.

The follow-up paper (which is due a week from tomorrow) is to develop an action plan on how to use communication tools to address the given issue. Below the cut is a list of questions about perceptions of racism in fandom as well as questions about how we respond to such incidents. Anonymous commenting is permitted (though I'll be logging IP addresses), but if you would prefer to respond privately and receive an answer, please feel free to PM me.

I want to thank amazonziti, who was extremely helpful in both reviewing and answering the questions below, and Bossymarmalade, who also provided assistance. Finally, if you think this is a worthwhile survey to complete and conversation to have, please give it signal boost at your own journal.

Survey: Racism in FandomCollapse )

If you have anything to add, please include it in a comment below or in a private message to me.

Thank you.

Note: This poll has been crossposted to Dreamwidth.

Leapin' Lemurs!

Thank you to the anony-mouse who gifted me with a leapin' lemur!

New job continues to be new, and I'll be happy when it becomes standard job (because at that point, I'll at least know what the hell I'm doing).

McShep Match Drabble Tree

Voting for the McShep_Match Drabble Tree challenge has opened up, and since I'm on Team Play and can't vote, I'm asking all of you to head over and vote for Team Play. The question is which team put in the best showing, and at 456 drabbles to Team Work's 294, I think Team Play showed how hard it's willing to play to win this challenge.

So go, read, enjoy, and vote for Team Play!

Remix is revealed!

This year, I wrote Mission Control (The Professor Angell Remix), which was based on chaletian's Don't Call him Alien Spawn! I've done the POV switch and the character switch and the go further in-depth kind of remixes, but until now, I hadn't done the turn-that-fluffy-bit-of-crack-into-a-horror-story kind of remix. If anyone has picked up on the reference in the title, they haven't mentioned it to me. It hasn't gotten a lot of hits, but I suspect that has to do with the warnings more than anything else. Either way, I had fun with it, and malnpudl was, as in past years, my beta reader.

The story of mine that was remixed was Out And About. gblvr wrote Out and About (The Queer and There Extended Mix), which was both a POV switch and a tweaking of the story to take into account some of what we learned during S5 of Supernatural.

Go, take a look at both, enjoy!

FIC: Mirror, Mirror, NC-17, Supernatural

Title: Mirror, Mirror
Author: elementalv
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Dean/Castiel
Notes/Spoilers: Missing scene from SPN 5.18. Written for Kink Bingo; the prompt was mirrors.
Summary: To be honest, Dean hadn’t thought it through, which, again to be honest, was like saying fish lived in water. Dean never thought shit like this through.

Also posted at AO3.

And, if anyone wants a Dreamwidth code, please send me a PM. I have quite a few.

FIC: Choice, PG, Supernatural

Title: Choice
Author: elementalv
Rating: PG
Pairing: Gen
Spoilers/Notes: Post-ep for 5.18; nothing specific for the episode, but it does assume the reader has seen the episodes up through 5.18, because the story doesn’t make a lot of sense otherwise.
Summary: Cas knows there’s a trap, one that goes beyond the obvious, but he isn’t sure what it might be.

Thoughts on POV

One of my classes this semester is on visual rhetoric, and one of the basic premises we've been talking about is how, as a society, we're much more visual than we used to be, thanks in part to movies, but more so, the Internet. Images flash by us constantly, and news sites, more often than not, provide video links for their stories. Music videos, movies, television shows, ads — all of these media use quick cuts and flash to grab our attention and tell a story in less than thirty seconds, because the creators can't be certain they'll hold our attention long enough to be able to tell us the entire story. American Express uses objects that look like sad faces or happy faces, and we watch and barely hear the message, because we're entranced by the sight of two door knobs and a hanger showing us a sad face.

Fandom itself has a visual component...Collapse )

Mettle Of A Woman, NC-17, Supernatural

Title: Mettle Of A Woman
Author: elementalv
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: John Winchester/Missouri Moseley

Gacked from various

There's a day for everything on LJ, and today, apparently, is Delurk Day (which brings interesting images to mind, specifically from the Fray comic, but I digress). Anyway...

Today has been declared lurker amnesty day! Have you read me but never commented? Do you surf by occasionally? Here for the fic? Say hello! You are under no obligation to ever comment or delurk again, but here's a chance to do so in a post just for that.

Supernatural thoughts

My first thought is that one of these days, I need a Supernatural icon.

The remainder of my thoughts are spoilerish and going under the cut.Collapse )

FIC: Athos Ascendant, PG-13, SGA

Title: Athos Ascendant
Author: elementalv
Rating: PG-13
Notes: Gen, roughly 4,650 words, Vegas tag. I started this last year, shortly after Vegas aired and finished it when I saw telesilla’s sga_santa request post. If I’d finished in time, I would have entered this for SGA Santa Madness, but I didn’t, so here we are.
Summary: Had it not been for Halling’s desire to learn from the inheritors of the City of the Ancestors, Teyla never would have treated with them in the first place.
